With over a decade of extensive experience in public affairs, community relations and strategic communications, Ricky Choi is a recognized community outreach professional in both the public and private sectors. Ricky is a community leader and has vast experience working directly with the public in a variety of services, having worked closely with local, county, statewide and federal elected officials. In addition, he has a demonstrated track record in successfully developing and implementing effective community outreach programs in support of high-profile public officials and government agencies. As an Outreach Manager for Lee Andrews Group since 2008, Ricky Choi currently serves as Community Relations Project Manager at the Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority, where he has overseen the public outreach and community relations program for more than a dozen large-scale infrastructure projects in the San Gabriel Valley. The Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority is a construction authority established by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments in 1998 to implement a construction program intended to mitigate the adverse impacts at rail-roadway crossings in the San Gabriel Valley of increasing rail traffic along the nationally significant ACE Trade Corridor.
His responsibilities have included project management, creating and administering budgets, planning and coordinating public meetings and other community events, media relations, drafting talking points, hiring and training staff, and developing collateral materials for direct distribution to the community. Ricky previously served as Senior Community Affairs Deputy and Special Assistant of External Affairs to then-California State Board of Equalization Member Judy Chu, Field Representative to then-California State Assembly Member Judy Chu and Assistant to Former California Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante. Active in civic and community affairs, Ricky currently serves as a Planning Commissioner in the City of Monterey Park and previously served as a Civil Service Commissioner and Parks and Recreation Commissioner in the City of Alhambra. Ricky has also served on the Board of Directors of numerous non-profit, community and political organizations throughout the state and was formerly President of Asian Professional Exchange (APEX), one of the largest non-profit organizations of Asian Pacific Islander American professionals in the country.
A proud UCLA Bruin, Ricky holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics and minor in Public Policy. He speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
